NIGERIA TOO DIRTY!

The dirt, sludge, smell and decay created by the supposed progress of this age is quite depressing. The earth is under attack from different directions; gas flaring, oil drilling, poor disposal of crude byproducts e.g. plastic bottles, bags, shoes, etc. The rivers are losing life, the farms are losing crops, the stink is choking us, yet we pretend that it is fine. Please do right thing today, keep you environment clean. properly dispose rubbish.#IAMANIGERIAN.

The poem below portrays the everyday activities of one of the most popular byproducts of crude oil to be found in every part of Nigeria's poorly constructed roads, gutters, drains, school premises, Government offices, the polythene or plastic bag.Enjoy and reflect.

THE BLACK POLYTHENE BAG

The black polythene bag laid on th feloor
Spread flat on the cement face.
A booted foot kicked it
And up it went only to come down;
Slowly, ever so slowly,
Weaving left and right
As if in a waltz with the invisible.
Suddenly, a tug, and up it goes again;
Twirling fast, fast, up, up, far, far away.

The same black polythene bag
Laid on the macadam road, unconcernedly,
As tires whirled by in ceaseless motion.
A tire picks its hand and laughing, rolls on.
A traffic light stops the tire
With the polythene bag on its back,
Staring in dizziness at the mud caked wheels.
A sudden jolt, a revving sound and on it goes again;
Rolling fast, fast, forward, forward,far, far away.

The tattered black polythene bag
Clutched to a water drain,
Staring down the uncertain dark.
Uncaring shoes pass by in noised clatter,
Revving and horns,
voices and tweeting pass by too.
Suddenly, a push and down it goes again;
Falling slowly, slowly, down, down, far , far away,
Never to be seen again.
